Australian post-rock luminaries sleepmakeswaves are on course to release their latest album, Made Of Breath Only, this coming Friday, March 24. To gain further insight into the swelling tide of instrumental ebb and flow that awaits us, we hit Resist Records in Sydney for a vinyl raiding session to learn more about the albums that influenced theirs.

Kids in a candy shop wouldn’t come close to describing Otto and Alex as they sifted through crate after crate in the search of sonic gold. ‘Transportcore’, balancing Paramore with Fugazi, theorising the post-rock-ness of Luca Brasi, guitar teching for High On Fire and the importance of Camp Cope; the session provided us with some otherwise unobtainable insight into sleepmakeswaves and how they craft their creative output.

Currently abroad, the 4-piece will soon be loading up the van to hit the highways of Australia for a run of headline dates. You’ve be hard-pressed to find a band that’s earned the status of Road Dogs as righteously as sleepmakeswaves, so it’s quite clear they’ll have an impressive set in store for us.
